Annual Easter Egg Hunt

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt is held the Saturday before Easter each year.  Plastic eggs are hidden in the Sumner Park prior to the event.  Kids ranging in age from toddler to school age are welcome to participate.  Area businesses provide prizes in the form of candy, fruit and other small items.  With as many as 38 local businesses participating it is quite an exciting event.

Come and enjoy the beautiful spring weather in "the Roost".  Ride, sack lunch at noon, barbeque after the ride.  Hay racks available for those without 4 legged transportation.  $12.00 per adult.  Special price for kids 12 and under.  Overnight camping available.  Breakfast at the Cattlemen's.  Prizes to be given away.

This annual dinner helps to kick off Sumner's 3rd and 4th of July Celebration.  Roast beef dinner and homemade desserts are served.  Proceeds go to the Commercial Club to help fund the Easter Egg Hunt, July 3rd & 4th Celebration, Soup & Santa and other Commercial Club sponsored events throughout the year.  Adults $5 and children under 5 $3.  Turtle Race immediately follows.  This exciting event takes place outside of the Community Hall in the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street.  Children can bring their own "pet" turtle or can "adopt" a turtle provided by the Commercial Club.  Ribbons are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and Overall Champion.  Raffle Tickets and Boat Race entries are available for purchase during the event!

Parade starts at 10:30 on July 4th with many family oriented activities to follow.  Fireworks display at dusk, followed by a street dance featuring Mohanna with Red Shoes.  This annual celebration is the largest event sponsored by the Sumner Commercial Club.  The Celebration kicks off on July 3rd with basketball and volleyball tournaments and an afternoon rodeo sponsored by the Sumner Saddle Club.  Events on the 4th begin with a parade at 10:30 with recognition given to participants in the following categories:  Commercial/Business, Antique Auto, Classic Auto, Horse & Rider, Juvenile Entries, Adults Entry, Saddle Club, Club/Civic, Church, Team & Wagon, Antique Tractor, Special/Unique, and Theme.  With as many as 100 entrants this is one of the largest parades in the state of Nebraska.  The parade is traditionally followed by family activities including Foot Races and Money Pile at the football field, FBLA Luncheon at the Community Hall, Car Show and entertainment in the park.  The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department provides a free-will donation BBQ supper in the park followed by Fireworks Display at dusk which is then followed by a street dance featuring Mohanna with Red Shoes.  Join us for this family friendly event!
