St. Patrick's Catholic Church
St. Patrick's Eddyville was begun in 1887, southeast of Eddyville, when
the Burns family donated a plot of land for the cemetery and a church was
built there. In 1893, the church was moved to its present sight, becoming
the first church in Eddyville, as a mission for Lexington and Kearney. Mass
was held on weekdays instead of Sunday. In 1907, the present church
was built with Father Daly the first pastor. Later that year, Father
Mustermann became the first resident pastor. Dedication of the church
was July 18, 1909. Amherst became a mission of Eddyville in 1928. The
new steeple was built in 1939 after the original one was struck by lightning. In
1982, Amherst became a mission of Kearney when Father Lou Nollette was assigned
to Eddyville, Oconto, and Callaway. This remained until 1994, when
regrettably regular weekend masses were no longer held. This sad event
was a result of declining number of priests in our diocese and a declining
population in our rural communities.
Please join us for our regular mass at St. John Capistran in Amherst.
