Entrepreneurship Workshop: Starting and Developing Your Small Buisness

Mustang Country Community Development is assisting in the offering of this Entrepreneurship Workshop
September 24 - November 11, 2009.

Mustang Country Community Development is offering:

  • $200 Scholarship (for 15 applicants)
  • Drawings for copies of Quickbooks Pro 2009 (value $200)
  • SITE - Offered at SEM School, Distance Learning Lab

Central Community College - Grand Island is excited to announce Entrepreneurship Workshop: Starting and Developing Your Small Business. This is a practical business development education program designed to help entrepreneurs identify and hone business skills needed to create, manage, and grow a successful business. Each session will focus on key topics such as business concepts, marketing and sales strategies, based on the individual's gifts, talents, and purpose. This program will provide an opportunity for new business owners to establish a foundation on which to build their business. Established business owners wanting to take their business to the next level will learn critical new skills in a supportive environment. Sign up for the entire series at a cost of $231 and receive 3 college credits from Central Community College.

By attending this workshop attendees will learn:

  • What steps are needed to start your own business
  • Whether or not your idea for a new business will work
  • Ways to find customers and spread the word about your business
  • Determine what funding is needed and financing options
  • Explore topics for operating a business in accordance with tax requirements
  • Become acquainted with business operations in accordance to legal issues
  • Develop a Business Road Map to structure your business

Laying the Foundation to Your Small Business

Thursday, September 24 6:30-9:30 p.m.
When thinking about starting your own business, it is important to begin with a strong foundation. By attending this workshop, aspiring business owners will learn what steps they need to take to start their business. Students will create their business concept statement and identify their potential market. Other informational topics to be discussed will include being an entrepreneur, business planning, small business marketing, financing options, and the services provided by the Southeast Community College Entrepreneurship Center.

Quickbooks Level 1

Tuesday, September 29 & October 6 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Learn more advanced functions of the QuickBooks Pro software. Learn to create a company, use the check register, generate estimates and invoices, track credit cards, pay bills, create reports, and memorize transactions.

Is My Business Idea Feasible?

Wednesday, September 30 6:30-9:30 p.m.
If you're starting, running, or growing a business, you need numbers! You need numbers to: determine whether or not your idea will work; find and evaluate new customers and markets; present a convincing business and marketing plan; and a 'number' of other applications. This workshop will help you gain a basic understanding of what is involved in researching and developing your business concept and help you make sound business decisions.

Marketing Strategies for the Small Business

Thursday, October 8 & 15 6:30-10 p.m.
Valuable marketing assistance that will help your small business get noticed! Discover new ways to find new customers, spread the word about your business, influence the media and develop an advertising strategy. In this hands-on workshop you will gain insights essential for marketing your small business venture utilizing innovative and financially responsible marketing strategies.

Tuesday, October 13 & 20 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Learn more advanced features and functions of the QuickBooks Pro software. Learn about the accounting feature including various disk operations and Account's Review. Learn to handle assets and liabilities, and create and manage a budget.

Funding a Business Venture

Thursday, October 22 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Business start up and growth require a thorough analysis to determine what funding will be needed. Discover various financing options. Understand the pros and cons of each option and determine which is best for you.

Tax Structures for Businesses

Tuesday, October 27 6-9 p.m.
In today's business environment, there are many issues that business owners encounter when operating a successful business. These issues include income tax, sales and use tax, payroll tax, and unemployment taxes. You will explore some of the most important topics in running the operations of a business in accordance with tax requirements.

Legal Structures for Businesses

Thursday, October 29 6:30-9:30 p.m.
This course will explore state and local legal issues related to business entities including sole proprietorship, general partnerships, limited partnerships, corporations as well as employment law, and licensing and permits. You will explore topics related to business operations in accordance to legal requirements.

Business Plan in a Day

Wednesday, November 4 & 11 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Your business plan is a powerful document telling the story of your company, your vision and your future. It is the roadmap to your success. Join us for a quick and efficient journey through the process of developing your business plan. We will also help discover the operational structure of your business from renting/buying the space, installing the phone system to creating employee guidelines.
